MA Family leave update

NEWS FROM THE DEPT. OF FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE (DFML)

Here are some program changes and enhancements that may impact you.

New: DFML Contact Center hours have changed: Our contact center hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Call (833) 344-7365 to get answers to your questions in English, Español, and Português.  Translation services for up to 240+ languages are also available.

Updated: We Have Updated and Expanded FAQ Pages on the DFML Website: After listening to feedback from stakeholders, we have updated the Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about PFML on the mass.gov website. See PFML FAQ for Employers and PFML FAQ for Employees.

Updated: We have made small but significant changes to the Serious Health Condition Forms. Health care providers should note changes to the wording on question 14 of the Certification of Your Serious Health Condition form and question 20 of the Certification of Your Family Member’s Serious Health Condition form.

New: Employees Can Now Report Intermittent Leave on the Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) website: We have updated the reporting process for intermittent leave. Employees may now report intermittent leave hours on the PFML website. Employees may use the PFML website to enter hours any time that is most convenient for them, including times that are outside contact center operating hours.

Updated: Enhanced Intermittent Leave Notifications are Available to Employers: The employer’s notification for intermittent leave has been updated to provide leave administrators with instructions for accessing employee reported leave details. The email now explains how to access information such as time used and time remaining.

Updated: For Employers with PFML Private Plan Exemptions: Beginning July 1, 2024 DFML will no longer approve retroactive private plan exemptions that span more than 4 calendar quarters from the date of the request.  Please see this webpage for information on requesting a PFML retroactive private plan exemption, including detailed lists of conditions and requirements.

Reminder: For Employers with PFML Private Plan Exemptions: Employers with PFML Private Plan Exemptions are responsible for submitting reporting no later than August 31, 2024. Learn more about employer private plan reporting obligations, including relevant dates, required information, and reporting responsibilities.
